CNC Grinder Position Summary
The CNC Grinder I is responsible for keeping the grinding machines running with minimal assistance. This position will also perform a series of progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close and exacting tolerances and finish specification, while checking parts for conformance to specifications.
Shift Available: 4th Shift - Friday - Sunday, 5am-5pm
Responsibilities
CNC Grinder Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a basic level of machining techniques
- Understand tool probing program, probing wheel packs, and tooling
- Maintain efficiency levels at or above 90%
- Troubleshoot and escalate concerns
- Make program changes and edits to control the lengths, land lengths, relief angles and core sizes, eliminate chatter, meet finish requirements, and adjust speeds and feeds
- Understand tool application concepts to maintain production rates; wheel pack change, tool holders, speeds and feeds, wheel wear, wheel or wheel pack substitution, wheel consumption, and wheel life management
- Use measuring tools to inspect parts; Caliper, Micrometer, Bore Gage, Thread Gage, Indicators, Gage Pins, Gage Rings, Pressure Mic, Profilometer
- Use visual inspection equipment; CMM (PC-Dmis), Micro-Vu, Contracer, Heli-Check, and PG1000 cutting tool inspection system
- Run multiple machines at the same time
- Provide machine maintenance by checking the way lube and coolant/oil levels, inspecting the doors, guards, and shields, and removing grinding swarf
- Verify the first article meets the specifications listed
- Locate, read, and understand the Inspection Plan (IP)
- Read, understand, and follow work instructions
- Understand sample sizes and frequencies
- Complete daily production sheets
- Understand how to buff and deburr product
- Initiate the process for non-conforming material
- Understand intermediate blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing concepts; Cp & Cpk, run charts, control limits and ability to identify process trends
Qualifications
CNC Grinder Position Requirements
- 2 years of experience as a CNC machinist
- Shop math skills including trigonometry
- Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and document work instructions, standard operating procedures, and training documents
- Mechanical Aptitude
- Dexterity and hand and eye coordination
- Ability to use a microscope
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to cross train in other areas of production when required
CNC Grinder Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with wheel dressing and truing
- Advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Advanced Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Experience working in a highly regulated industry (FDA, ISO)
