PRODUCTION MANAGER QUARRY - 2025-5097
Burlington, WIThe Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the quarry, ensuring the safe and efficient production of aggregate materials in accordance with quality standards, production goals, and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position plays a key role in managing production, maintenance, safety, staffing, and continuous improvement efforts at the sites.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Direct and coordinate quarry operations to ensure optimal production, efficiency, and quality.
- Monitor and analyze production metrics and adjust operations to achieve cost and performance targets.
- Ensure effective maintenance of equipment and facilities to minimize downtime.
- Oversee site stripping and blasting operations in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety in accordance with company policies and MSHA regulations.
- Ensure environmental compliance and sustainability practices are followed throughout operations.
- Conduct and support regular safety audits, training, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of hourly and salaried employees.
- Manage staffing levels and work schedules to meet operational needs.
- Partner with GM and Field Supervisor to review objectives, requirements and daily needs.
- Perform back-up as needed for non-union roles.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Understand and abide by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, maintaining positive labor relations and working constructively with union leadership.
- Assist the GM with annual budget development, forecasting, and capital project planning.
- Control operational costs while maintaining product quality and service levels.
- Participate in strategic planning to support long-term site development and resource management.
- Work with the GM on land expansion opportunities and site development planning, including negotiations and execution of land acquisition or lease agreements.
- Support sales and customer service teams by ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners including contractors and regulatory agencies.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Complete all other work duties as assigned.
- Ability to work in a quarry environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA’s and certifications)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in aggregate, mining, or heavy manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Proven leadership experience with strong team-building, coaching, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA safety regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
- Proficient in production planning, budgeting, and performance analysis.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of plant and mobile equipment operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change and lead process improvement initiatives.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Experience with blasting operations and site development.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build professional relationships with internal and external customers
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
Desirable Criteria & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, business, operations management, or related field
Physical & Environmental Demands
Work is performed in a combination of office and field environments, including exposure to dust, noise, heat, and changing weather conditions. Required to wear personal protective equipment and adhere to all safety protocols. May occasionally work extended hours or weekends to support operations.
